| from 02/2022 (Shanghai + Grünheide) | catalogue 75, community measurements up to 79 | NMC | LG 2170 (5L/M50) |
The largest used supply on the Model Y. NMC packs with a well-documented ageing curve that flattens out early in community data.
VIN tip: LRW means Shanghai, XP7 means Grünheide.
Battery warranty for this variant: 8 years / 192,000 km (70% minimum capacity).
RWD (LFP, Shanghai) (late 2022 – early 2025)
| Period | net kWh | Chemistry | Cells |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11/2022 – 01/2025 | approx. 57 | LFP | CATL, prismatic |
Cycle-robust LFP chemistry; the SoH reading depends heavily on BMS calibration because of the flat voltage curve.
Tesla recommends charging to 100 percent regularly — it calibrates the BMS.
Battery warranty for this variant: 8 years / 160,000 km (70% minimum capacity).
RWD (LFP, Grünheide) (approx. 2023 – 2024)
| Period | net kWh | Chemistry | Cells |
|---|---|---|---|
| approx. 05/2023 – 2024 | approx. 55–60 (sources disagree) | LFP | BYD Blade, structural pack |
The Berlin-built RWD uses BYD Blade cells in a structural pack; it charges faster than its CATL sibling at low states of charge. Capacity figures vary between sources — for a specific car, only a measurement settles it.
Battery warranty for this variant: 8 years / 160,000 km (70% minimum capacity).
Juniper RWD (facelift) (since 03/2025)
| Period | net kWh | Chemistry | Cells |
|---|---|---|---|
| since 03/2025 | approx. 60 | LFP | CATL (6M) |
Too young for long-term statements; the LFP notes above apply.
Battery warranty for this variant: 8 years / 160,000 km (70% minimum capacity).

| since 08/2025 (Performance) | 79 | NMC | LG 5M |
The newest NMC generation; the first cars reach the used market in 2026/2027.
Battery warranty for this variant: 8 years / 192,000 km (70% minimum capacity).

| Period | net kWh | Chemistry | Cells |
|---|---|---|---|
| since 11/2025 | approx. 60–62 (sources disagree) | LFP | CATL or BYD (unconfirmed) |
The entry-level facelift variant; the supplier and the exact capacity are not yet firmly documented.
Battery warranty for this variant: 8 years / 160,000 km (70% minimum capacity).
The Model Y was Europe's best-selling EV in 2022 and 2023 — and exactly those model years are now coming off lease into the used market. The battery landscape is messier than on the Model 3: two factories, two LFP suppliers, and since 2025 the Juniper facelift.
Reading the SoH on a Model Y
The routes are identical to the Model 3 — from the built-in battery health test to an independent certificate. The full comparison, with costs and how much each result is worth, is in our guide checking Tesla battery health.
What to look for when buying used
Start with origin and variant (VIN prefix, table above) — on the RWD it decides which LFP pack is fitted. Only compare SoH figures within the same pack generation, and never judge from the range display; on LFP in particular, an uncalibrated BMS can fake low figures. Keep an eye on the warranty limit: 160,000 km on the RWD arrives faster than high-mileage drivers expect, and the remaining warranty is a price argument in both directions.
Battery warranty
Tesla warrants the battery for 8 years with at least 70% remaining capacity. Mileage limits and exceptions are shown with the variants above and in the questions below.
